“Uta in Sharr” is a children’s book, heartfelt and warm, written by Tuba Safçiu and beautifully illustrated by Qëndrim Hoxhaj. This book offers young readers a vivid and imaginative journey through the majestic Sharr Mountains. At its core, it is a celebration of nature, storytelling, and the powerful bond between children and the environment.
Rooted in the cultural and natural landscapes of Kosovo, Uta in Sharr introduces children to the beauty and mystery of the wilderness that surrounds them. Through rich, poetic language and captivating illustrations, the story follows a young girl, Uta, as she explores the mountains, encountering wildflowers, rivers, forests, and animals, all presented in a way that invites readers to see the world with wonder and respect.
This book does more than simply entertain. It gently encourages environmental awareness, teaching children the value of preserving the natural world. At the same time, it empowers young readers, especially girls, to be curious, brave, and connected to the places they come from. The narrative promotes exploration and imagination, while also reinforcing messages of care, responsibility, and self-discovery.
Uta in Sharr was officially launched at the National Library of Kosovo in a special event that brought together authors, artists, educators, and institutions. Among the attendees were the Minister of Culture, Mr. Hajrulla Çeku, and the representative of the Swedish Embassy in Kosovo, Mr. Riby, who are both supporters of this important initiative that highlights the role of literature in shaping young minds and fostering a deeper connection with nature.
